Tenants can install solar with written consent from the property owner. However, for PM Surya Ghar subsidy eligibility, the BESCOM connection must be in the applicant's name. In most cases, the subsidy application should be in the owner's name even if the tenant is paying for installation.
BESCOM replaces your meter with a bidirectional smart meter. Solar power you consume is free; excess power you export to the grid is credited to your account at a fixed rate and adjusted in your monthly bill. You only pay for net units consumed from the grid beyond your solar generation.
